Locals greet new park on a former colliery site
The people have been happy at the prospect of developing a new park at the old site of the Orgreave Colliery in the South Yorkshire region. Waverley has quite recently developed thousands of new homes and locals stated that it was crucial to develop recreational facilities too.

Harworth developer added that the 20-acre Highwall Park would include landscaped walks, ponds within the park wildlife friendly, cycle ways, play and sports and leisure.Development of the park is taking place in phases, with three to be realised, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, informed by the responses during a community consultation that was conducted last year.

The initial stage considering opening the park is set to unfold towards the end of the year.Highwall park would not only have a connection to the newly constructed Olive Lane, but with the not so distant Waverley Lakes Harworth stated. The park is named after a mining term that used unexcavated portion of the opencast mine.

Mrs Bolan said: "We have been here with no facilities at all basically, hence this all rounds out to be good and highly welcome."Mr Bolan had said they were at the top and it was pretty exiting going down all the way to the lakes.

According to Peter Massie, Harworth national director of development, the park has always been on the agenda of the firm in the region. He said, "It is our effort that this Brownfield site has been prepared over the last one year or so and is ready to be transformed."It is exhilarating to be where we are now and actually be able to see this new green space fulfilled.

Chloe Emery, another resident in the Waverley neighbourhood, said the park would become an ideal site where her four children could play. She said: "It is what we require, it is what all kids require."It will make them stay out of mischief and will occupy them."The opening of a new GP surgery in Waverley is on the cards but Waverley Junior Academy primary school will be expanding in September.
