Prison murderer who tried to kill a guard gets 10 years with revenge.
A cold blood murderer serving his term is sentenced to 10.5 years because he had ordered a revenge gun attack on a prison guard. In November 2022, Paterson, who was 45 years old, was in the HMP Edinburgh living his life trying to get a heart attack in smuggling bags of cocaine because, according to the guard, he did not want to go to the hospital once, thinking that it can cost him his life.
Paterson had copped guilt at the High Court in Edinburgh, of calling in accomplices to acquire a handgun and some bullets but police had interrupted the operation. Lord Harrower, in passing the sentence, said the act of the prison officer had been done, in his opinion, altogether appropriately. There was nothing in his conduct which needed vengeance, he said. According to what was heard in the court, when Paterson mentioned that he was experiencing heart attack, an ambulance called the jail; this was not what the prison authorities had asked to happen.

The guard did not trust the prisoner in that he attempted to plot an earlier escape in 2012 where he would be hospitalized. The officer also saw him (Paterson) removing a sim card of a mobile phone and pushing the mint into his mouth and chewing. The paramedics had agreed with him to keep watch of Paterson in jail and before he was taken to the Edinburgh Royal infirmary hours later.

He argued that he heard someone at hospital to say I am lucky to be alive. He determined that he would have revenge on the officer in making him to be attacked severely.

The prison officers were worried about the behaviour of Paterson and in February 2023 an undercover surveillance device was put in his cell.Paterson was caught in some record in which he was talking about a plan to attack the prison officer.Fortunately, the police came in between and no one tried actually to attack the officer, who was completely unaware, as Mr Cameron added.

Particulars of the scheme came to light earlier this year when Paterson had pleaded separately that he had instructed two men - Sean McGregor and Donald Stone - and other unnamed accomplices to deliver drugs into the jail.He instructed them to steal people drugs, watches and some amount of money.

He was also sentenced to serve an additional one year and two months of unserved sentence in another earlier conviction, once he committed the crime when he was out on licence.
