The Trump administration filed lawsuits against four states to prevent them from pursuing legal action against major fuel companies responsible for climate change harm.

The federal government launched lawsuits on Thursday against four states in a bid to stop them from prosecuting fossil fuel firms regarding climate damage responsibilities which represents another government assault against climate policies while creating doubts about states' ability to tackle climate change and enforce compliance from polluters. The Department of Justice initiated two federal lawsuits on Wednesday to prevent Hawaii and Michigan from pursuing their pending legal actions against oil companies for creating environmental damages. Hawaii filed a lawsuit before Michigan took legal action against oil companies which has not occurred yet.The Department of Justice filed two lawsuits on Thursday against New York and Vermont through which it challenged their superfund climate laws that mandate fossil fuel companies to fund climate damage repair. The legal argument described these laws as a scheme of commercial exploitation through which local companies must pay financial fees to external businesses.Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated in a Thursday announcement that these ideological laws present threats to U.S. energy freedom and economic stability as well as national defense systems.According to a DOJ statement these state actions represent an illegal attempt at legislative power that both breaks Constitutional boundaries and goes against the authority granted to the EPA under the Clean Air Act for power plant pollution control. The initiative was expected to increase American energy costs for consumers.

Several legal experts registered worry about the administrative actions. The Columbia University Sabin Center for Climate Change Law faculty director Michael Gerrard described such legal action against state litigation as highly unprecedented when speaking to the Associated Press. He described this action as an ambitious move that supported fossil fuel companies.Hawaii's Attorney General Anne Lopez declared through a statement on Thursday that the DOJ lawsuit represents a direct assault upon Hawaiʻi's rights to sovereign status while simultaneously striving to prevent state involvement against the fossil fuel industry for deceptive acts that caused climate change damage to Hawaiʻi.Lopez revealed that Hawaii filed a legal complaint against seven fossil fuel company groups and the American Petroleum Institute on Thursday for deceptive practices mainly responsible for causing Maui wildfire damage which resulted in the death of at least 100 people.Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel accused Trump of serving primarily at the disposal of big oil contributors who donated during his campaigns. The lawsuit appears frivolous while potentially probably violating court standards. The White House together with Big Oil can contest our statements after we file the lawsuit she declared in her Thursday statement.More than 30 states and cities together with tribal governments have filed legal action against fossil fuel companies with certain claims requesting court orders for the companies to pay damages to fund disaster response for floods and wildfires and extreme heat events.

The fossil fuel industry has submitted multiple appeals before the Supreme Court in a bid to transfer cases from state jurisdiction to federal jurisdiction because federal courts show potential bias in dismissing such suits. The courts have already dismissed this alternative many times which demonstrates their acceptance of the motion.Major fossil fuel businesses made multiple attempts to obtain intervention from the Supreme Court for these lawsuits without success. A Honolulu fossil fuel company legal case filed by the city of Honolulu against major oil companies remained in state court after the Supreme Court declined to take it in January.Lawmakers at the Department of Justice have taken action to block new lawsuits against fossil fuel companies because President Donald Trump issued a national-energy emergency order through his first executive mandate on his first day in office. The executive order stated that Obama-era policies resulted in “pervasively inadequate” energy supplies and an “unstable energy grid.” Agencies received instructions from this order to enhance the infrastructure for fossil fuels.Trump made this announcement when he signed it.The ability to solve any problem emerges from this executive order. He instructed that the emergency status allows you to execute whatever actions required to emerge from your difficulties. The country currently faces this sort of emergency situation.
