Kingston doth prohibit advertisements of junk food
Advertising on the so-called unhealthy food in Kingston will be prohibited in-order to curb the increased burden of obesity and diabetes.According to LDRS, a new report by council officers claimed that the policy was in place to boost the health of the residents because of curbing their exposure to such products.In 2023, the joint strategic needs assessment in the south-west London borough showed that the prevalence of diabetes was on the increase, over 2 000 new cases are estimated to be caused by excess weight.The new policy would limit advertising of the so called harmful products on all the council-owned estates, assets and in advertising contracts that the council procures.In case the scheme is implemented, the council will be the authority to judge whether an advert complies with the new advertising policy.The combined strategic needs assessment of Kingston in 2023 reviewed the five greatest risk instrumentalities to poor health and early death of grown-up individuals as cigarettes, alcohol, great BMI, upsetting nutritional practice and fundament high systolic blood pressure.

The report stated that through implementation of the policy, the strategy and operational plans to curb the increasing levels of obesity as well as chronic disease would be supported in the borough.The report says that already a healthier advertising policy has been introduced by a total of 24 local authorities around the UK, and nine London boroughs.New contracts would be subjected to the policy and the existing contracts would be required to comply with the new conditions when renewed.On 17 June the council people committee will vote on whether to approve the policy.
