A council has published a tutorial video on how bicycle and footpath-users should use a new Dutch-style roundabout. The animated movie depicts cars, bicycles, and lorries using the new junction in Hemel Hempstead before it is officially ready for use on 2 June.Hertfordshire is asking those who will use Boundary Way in Maylands to watch the video before it opens.Mark Doran, who is responsible for growth and environment at the council, made the comments. Since residents of Hemel are familiar with new roundabouts, we are happy the one on Boundary Way is finishing as expected.Traffic from six routes combines at the end of the town centre at the official Plough Roundabout, which is often called the Magic Roundabout.
By helping our residents get comfortable with the city, we hope that getting around becomes more pleasant for them, Mr Doran said.Active Travel England has supported the project, which is thought to be unique in the area.Roundabouts are commonly used in the Netherlands’ cycle-oriented streets. In 2020, the first homeless housing facility of this kind was built in Cambridge. Yet, figures revealed that more collisions had occurred at the roundabout since it was built, compared to the number during the same time for its previous roundabout.
