Guatemalan National Indicted for Smuggling Teen Girl into U.S. Using Fake Identity and Fraudulent Custody Claim

A 26-year-old Guatemalan national Juan Tiul Xi got arrested by a federal grand jury for illegally bringing a 14-year-old girl across U.S. borders after he submitted false ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) documents for custody. The indictment reveals that Tiul Xi ventured to the United States from his residence in Cleveland while living illegally in 2023. The minor entered the country border using Tiul's sister's identity while he encouraged her to do so which misrepresented their family relationship. Tiul Xi submitted false statements on a sponsorship application to ORR in order to take custody of the UAC after her placement in ORR supervision.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi declared through her statement that the administrationлами the protection of exploited vulnerable children and will pursue justice until they complete their work during the border crisis. The case demonstrates how immigration authorities struggle to authenticate the individual identity and objectives of persons who want to gain custody of unaccompanied children. The administration maintains safety as its top priority and preserves the integrity across immigration operations.
